How To Turn Your Obstacles Into Opportunities

[vimeo 320585243 w=640 h=360]

Roman Emperor Marcus Aurelius said, “The impediment to action advances action. What stands in the way becomes the way.”

That means, the thing that is in the way, becomes the way—or it is the obstacle that becomes the opportunity! What is stopping you from achieving your goals and dreams?

God gifted you with life and your gift to God is to do something extraordinary with your life! Or as Dr. Howard Thurman, the great theologian and philosopher said, “Live your life in such a way that when you come to die, God will not have to repent for making you!”

This week on my SiriusXM show, the special guest is ME! Actually, it’s a recent interview, syndicated radio host, George Kilpatrick, recorded for his own radio show. George has a special gift in getting guests to really dig deep in sharing their ideas and concepts. Upon listening, my staff suggested you would enjoy this interview, and I agreed!

Here are a few “pearls” came from the interview:

  • Difficult times happen to us all, yet we decide whether we will let them break us or build us. Remember, the same hammer that can break the glass can also be the one that shapes the iron!
  • A reputation, a brand of being excellent, will always be the best job security. No one can promise you will continue working where you are presently, but if you are excellent—and the word gets around that you are excellent, someone is always looking to get you on their team!
  • You must see inside yourself and determine what you are meant to do, and where you are supposed to go with your life! Once you have that vision clear, go to work to make it a reality!
  • There is more for you when you decide that there is more for you!
  • If you want greater in your life, work on the greater within yourself!
  • Decide to unlock and unleash the power that God has placed inside of you!
  • Your faith is energized and maximized by taking action on that faith!

From Managing Minutes to Managing Millions

[vimeo 318891780 w=640 h=360]

Few people have had the impact on day-to-day management and business growth than Ken Blanchard. He’s the founder and chief spiritual officer of The Ken Blanchard Companies, which is an international management training and consulting firm. He began this company with his wife in 1979 and has grown it into a multi-million dollar enterprise.

Ken is the author of the classic book, The One Minute Manager, which has sold over 13 million copies – and remains on bestseller’s list today. He has written over 60 books and has more than 21 million books and counting! He was inducted into the Amazon Hall of Fame as one of the top 25 best-selling authors of all time.

In this interview, Ken details how you can have greater success in both your personal and your professional endeavors.

  1. Influence not authority is the key to successful leadership. When you influence people, they will do more to reach their goals, and you both grow together.
  2. Be committed. Interested people who exercise and experience a rainy day, will put it off until tomorrow. Committed people will exercise – somehow, someway, each and every day. Even if it means walking around the house or up the stairs in the office building.
  3. None of us are as smart individually as all of us collectively. Therefore, we should be thinking like a team, working like a team, in order to win like a team.
  4. When you catch someone on your team doing something good…celebrate them!
  5. People who feel good about themselves produce greater results.
  6. Leadership begins on the inside. If you are here to serve …you can lead better.
  7. People with humility don’t think less about. themselves, they just think of themselves less.
  8. Clear goals and the power of visualization are critical for success.
  9. The first step to success is to know where you’re going! Then get a clear plan to get there!

[vimeo 317514117 w=640 h=360]

Corey Minor Smith is a history maker of today – a lady with an amazing story. Les Browns says “She is a woman who has a story the world needs to hear!”

Corey Minor Smith was born to a single mom, who had a severe mental illness. During her school years, Corey attended 14 different schools and lived in 8 different homes. She became a juvenile delinquent and was on her way to a bad end when she was taken in by her paternal grandmother and raised as her own. Her grandmother instilled a new level of Christian faith and possibilities in Corey. Corey went to college, graduate school and law school – passing the bar on her first try! She has become a successful lawyer, wife, and mother.

Most recently, Corey made history as the first African American elected to an at large seat on the City Council in Canton, OH.

Her new book, #Driven, she tells of going from a JD (Juvenile Delinquent) to a JD (Juris Doctorate) to a History Maker of Today!

Here are 5 points Corey Minor Smith shares that helped her transform her life:

  1. Have Faith – Trust and rely on God; then move on your faith! Faith with action can create powerful results!
  2. Have Ongoing Motivation – Listen and read information constantly to keep you inspired and ready to keep fighting for your dreams!
  3. Be Determined – Feed the internal inferno (fire) inside of yourself by staying focused on your goals and why it is critical to achieving them.
  4. Preparation – Prepare yourself for the opportunity before you need it. And then prepare for what you are asking for.
  5. Take action – We all wish and daydream, but nothing happens until you take action! Action helps turn the dream into reality!

Make Your Brain A Power Player

[vimeo 313264848 w=640 h=360]

Daniel Pink, a former speechwriter for Vice President Al Gore, has studied the science of thinking.

He’s created an empire that focuses on helping improve performance by helping improve the way people think and what they think about.

The newest of his six books, When: The Scientific Secrets of Perfect Timing, spent four months on the New York Times bestseller list and was named one of the Best Books of 2018 by Amazon, iBooks, Goodreads, and several more outlets!

Pink’s books have won multiple awards and have been translated into 39 languages. His book, When, is about timing…not how to do something, but rather when to do something. Timing can make a major difference in your success or your failure. Our brainpower changes throughout the day. Therefore, we should think about when we do things that matter.

During my SiriusXM radio show interview with Dan, he revealed that studies show:

  • The kids who took math in the morning did better than those who took math the afternoon.
  • Anesthesia errors are four times more common in the afternoon than in the morning.
  • Taking mental breaks throughout the day can help performance
  • The best breaks are 10 – 20 minutes long.
  • Short naps are also helpful to recharge the body and brain.
  • Short walks outside, preferably with others, are best.
  • Successful people schedule breaks so that they can have optimal brainpower.
  • Just “powering through” used to be thought of as valiant, but science proves that’s not as effective as taking a break and then coming back rested!
  • Just as you stop to recharge your phone you should make a point to recharge your brain!

Daniel Pink’s interview will improve how you approach your life and work for ultimate performance.
